Visa & Work Permit Guidance for IAESTE Internships

Understanding visa requirements is an essential part of preparing for your IAESTE internship. Each country has specific processes, documents, and timelines. IAESTE Kenya supports you with guidance, official documents, and coordination to help you secure the right visa or work permit for your destination.

Before You Apply

Prepare your documents early and follow host-country instructions carefully

What You Will Need

Common visa and work-permit requirements

Every host country has different regulations, but most IAESTE interns will need a set of core documents to successfully apply for their visa or work permit. Your IAESTE Kenya National Committee and your host committee abroad will ensure you receive all official materials on time.

  • A valid passport (minimum 6 months before expiry)

  • IAESTE invitation or acceptance letter

  • Official employer placement confirmation

  • Proof of travel and health insurance

  • Passport-sized photos

  • Proof of accommodation or address abroad

  • Bank statement or financial support letter

  • University enrollment confirmation

Some embassies may request additional documents such as police clearance, medical certificates, translations, or notarized copies. Requirements differ widely from country to country, so review the embassy guidelines closely and begin the process immediately after receiving your placement documents.

Application Process & Timeline

Visa and work-permit processing times vary considerably depending on your destination. IAESTE Kenya strongly recommends applying as early as possible, ideally within days of receiving your acceptance package. Your host committee may also provide further instructions specific to their country.

  • Check embassy or consulate requirements

  • Gather all required documents

  • Schedule a visa appointment if necessary

  • Submit the application and pay required fees

  • Track processing progress and respond to requests

  • Do not book flights before visa approval

  • Inform IAESTE Kenya immediately once your visa is issued

Once you arrive in your host country, you may need to complete additional registration or residence-permit steps. Your host IAESTE committee will guide you through these processes. Always keep digital and printed copies of your visa, insurance, and IAESTE documents during your travel.
